August 6, 2018 Band Boosters Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m. by Stephanie Callahan. She welcomed everyone and thanked everyone for their attendance. She asked if there were additions to the agenda and there were none.
The minutes from the July 2, 2018 meeting were read by Marcia Wheeler and no corrections were requested.
The treasurer’s report was given by Carol Moncado. There were a lot of transactions in July due to band camp. Most of the expenditures were for food at band camp and new tires for the pit.
Altis’ Announcements
Drill Camp/Stepping Out: The kids did a fantastic job in the heat. It was a great camp and they got a lot accomplished on the field. Thank you to all of the parent volunteers.
Beginning of School/Early Rehearsals: School begins Tuesday, August 14. Early rehearsals begin Wednesday, August 15. Students should be on the practice field at 6:45 a.m. These rehearsals are used to “refine” the program.
o All students practice until 7:30 a.m.
o Percussion leaves and goes to 1st hour
o Woodwind and brass practice through 1st hour, then change clothes and go to class
o Please make sure your student has breakfast before rehearsal.
There will be several after-school rehearsals so the band can learn more of the show movements. Those dates will be announced approximately one week in advance.
Football Game Schedule: Parents have requested more information and sooner. If the football team has home games, we will perform. Students will stay until the end of the game – there are sometimes post-game concerts.
Competitions
o September 15 – Palen Percussion Preview at Nixa (the band boosters will provide lunch)
o September 29 – Ozark
o October 6 – Ozarko
o October 13 – Branson
o October 20 – Francis Howell North. This will be the overnight trip. Mr. Altis is still waiting to hear back from a hotel. The band will go to the zoo on October 21.
Second Truck: We need to transport a second Gator and have room for the students to change clothes (we currently have 8×8 tents with parent monitors). We are looking to purchase a second box truck vehicle that can be split down the middle –girls on one side, boys on the other. Mr. Altis asked that we think of ideas for a truck.
Props and Parent Involvement: There will be no fabric on the ladders, but maybe paint. We will need parents to help get the ladders from the parking lot to the stadium. As of now, Mr. Altis doesn’t think the ladders will be an issue in the wind, port a second Gator and have room for the students to change clothes (we currently have 8×8 tents with parent monitors). As of now, Mr. Altis doesn’t think the ladders will be an issue in the wind, but that theory is currently untested. We will also need to help the students get the tarp to the field and find a way of weighting it down (last year, we used chains).
