Altis’ Announcements
• Recap of the Marching Season o Branson was an expensive lunch date. o Francis Howell North was cold and windy, but overall the day went great. The pre-lim scores probably would have been different if no wind, it really threw the kids off to not use the ladders. o Zoo/Hotel – everything went ok. No complaints from the hotel staff or other guests.
• District Band Tryouts o On November 6, eleven students auditioned for district band/district honors band. Mr. Altis is pleased with the number of band members representing Republic at the district band level. Eight of those students will go to State auditions November 30-December 1. He is unsure of how the results will be posted – if they will go on the wall in Columbia or if the band directors will get an email.
• Christmas Parade will be Saturday, November 17. Everyone should meet at the Middle School band room by 9 a.m. that day. The middle school band will play for parents after the parade.
• New Uniforms o They are all here except two helmets and Mr. Altis is in the process of tracking those down. o They have been sorted and hung in the loft area.
• Upcoming Events o Mr. Altis is looking at the basketball schedule in an effort to determine the pep band schedule.
o Students should begin thinking of district solos and ensembles. That competition is in March. o Chair Tests for symphonic and concert band will be soon.
o Tuesday, December 11, the pep band will go to the elementary schools in an effort to recruit fifth graders into the band. Recruiting and testing will be earlier this year because elementary counselors begin working on schedules sooner than before.
o Thursday, December 13, there will be a concert at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium. There will be a couple of early rehearsals that week. o On November 14, the jazz band will be featured entertainment at a conference in Springfield. There was a parent question if the new uniforms would be worn for the Christmas parade. The new uniforms will not be distributed or worn this year.
Committee Reports
• Food Committee – Carol Moncado o What could be returned from the second meal at Branson was. Some of it was donated. o Extra condiments were donated to the football team for the district game meal. o As soon as the indoor percussion and winter guard competition schedules are set, they’ll work with the directors to determine when meals will be provided by the Band Boosters.
• Fund Raising – Greg Mitchell o December 8 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at 1984. Fifty percent of the admittance fee will go to the band. o Greg has received information about having a 5K as a fundraiser. That will be considered for future years. o Thank you to Mindy Hesterly for the car decals. o There was a parent question about the drawing – will we have one this year? That was tabled. o There will be no mattress sales.
• By-Laws – Barb Houser o The updates to the by-laws are still in the hands of the executive board.
• Social Media – Carol Moncado o The public Facebook page was been set up. We even Facebooked live during the Francis Howell competition.
• Parent Handbook – Marcia Wheeler o Random questions have been asked on Facebook to get first-time parent opinions on several topics. o The handbook will be updated so it can be distributed to parents of 8th graders at eighth grade night on January 28.
